Still covet that unlimited data plan? Well if you’re on Verizon you might want to start planning your next phone purchase. Android Central reports that the unlimited data plan will go bye-bye when grandfathered users upgrade their handsets “on contract.” Verizon’s trying to move people to tiered data, specifically their upcoming shared data plans that would give all lines on a person’s/family’s contract a pool of data to share.
Still want to keep unlimited per line data? You’ll be forced to purchase your handset full price, something that is largely foreign to US phone buyers used to deep subsidies on phones. This will apply to both 3G and 4G LTE handsets.
Verizon hasn’t announced a specific date for when the new plans launch.
