While pricing and availability haven’t been announced, Verizon and Motorola have unveiled the Droid 4 at long last.
Based on the Droid RAZR handset, the Droid 4 manages to pack in an entirely revised slide out 5 row keyboard, 4 inch qHD display, 1 GB of RAM and a 1.2 Ghz TI OMAP dual-core processor into a half-inch thin form factor. Imaging duties are handled by a 8 MP, 1080P rear camera with a front facing camera also present. As with most phone launches at CES, the Droid 4 won’t ship with Android 4.0, but is promised an upgrade in due time.
Motorola and Verizon are aiming this phone, like most hardware QWERTY’s these days, at businesses so the Droid 4 has on device hardware encryption and software encryption for contacts, e-mail, and calendar. Also preloaded are business apps like Citrix Receiver and Motorola’s WebTop mode for use in their laptop or multimedia docks, which will be available at launch.
From all appearances, it looks like the Droid 4 will have the specs to reclaim the title of one of Verizon’s flagship handset lines, after the Droid 3′s somewhat lackluster launch and somewhat middling feature set last year.
